How it works
The USGA recommends a two-step process. First, each player's Handicap Index is converted to a Course Handicap using the course's slope rating, course rating, and par:
Then percentage weights are applied to each player's unrounded course handicap — sorted lowest to highest. Better players contribute more because their ball is selected more often. The total is rounded to a whole number only at the very end.
| Team size | USGA default weights |
|---|---|
| 2 players | 35% of lower + 15% of higher |
| 3 players | 20% lowest + 15% middle + 10% highest |
| 4 players | 20% lowest + 15% 2nd + 10% 3rd + 5% highest |
Some tournaments adjust these percentages — use the weight fields in Step 2 to match your event's rules.
